ATN Corp (official website) and Pulsar (official website) are two well-known brands in terms of digital scopes. In this article we are going to compare their main products: ATN X-Sight 4K Pro and Pulsar Digex N455. We will briefly compare: features, mobile apps, day and night image quality.

What is in the box?
ATN X-Sight 4K | Pulsar Digex N455 |
---|---|
Both manufacturers included a lot in their boxes but nowadays when you buy something you want to start using it immediately right after pulling it from the box. Only ATN X-SIGHT allows you to use your scope immediately because you don’t need to look for rings. ATN provides 3 rings: 2 standard high rings (one with top part for IR-mounting) and L-Shaped ring for some specific mounting. It comes in handy when you want to use your scopes on different types of the rifle (AR-15 or bolt action).
Pulsar’s offers you a lot (3 pcs.) of batteries. Digex N455 has one internal battery and you can use one more (same as for IR-illuminator). Reason is completely clear – it won’t last long and you need to try not to lose your additional batteries on the field. X-Sight 4K Pro has only an internal battery and it lasts really long. It goes without saying that while using digital riflescopes (especially at extremely cold temperatures) you will need to have a power bank just in case. ATN has nowadays standard USB Type-C port (same as on your phone) while Pulsar has old-fashioned USB and you will need to handle specific USB to connect it. What can we say? Apple fans will suffer in both cases. Oh, speaking about something expensive, Pulsar’s (1199 $) cost is almost two times more than ATN’s (599 $). Is it worth paying more? Let’s see.
Features
Both scopes can record video with sound and make pictures, use different users’ profiles, a lot of reticles, recoil activated video or picture-in-picture mode. They all are cool but what is really cool and useful during the shooting – integrated ballistic calculator. X-Sight 4k Pro has it. It means that you can enter the most crucial ballistic data of your rifle (ammunition, weather condition and distance) and it will automatically count your ballistic drop and will correct your point of aim. Yes, you will need to buy ABL-Rangefinder but it’s worth every penny. When you see your prey you will have no time to make some calculations by yourself due to the amount of adrenaline which will be in your veins. Pulsar offers scalable ballistic reticles. But will you have time to use them?
Mobile application
Pulsar’s application is called Stream Vision and it works perfectly. It is easy to connect your device and to operate using its user interface. You can change all settings and make pictures just by pressing a button on your phone.
ATN’s application is called Obsidian…wait a second, they have 2 apps. One is blue and another is red. For X-Sight 4K you will need a blue one – Obsidian 4.
Application is almost the same: you also can adjust everything but you can not take pictures using only your phone.
Day time comparison
In the chart below you can compare images from both competitors. It goes without saying that they all are crisp but if you want to see more details, especially in color, than ATN – is the best.
We’ve put 3 targets at 100, 200 and 300 yards. At first we decided to compare just pure image quality. Pulsar offers only black/white image. If you are changing your position fast and look through the scope, Pulsar will have less lags. But hunting is not about speed, it is about patience and accuracy. You need to be sure at what you are going to shoot. ATN X-SIGHT 4K grants you a possibility to see all details and make a precise shot or photoshoot in color to share impressive views with your friends. Day time point goes to ATN

Night time comparison
If we are talking about night vision, then first of all we need to mention IR-illuminator. Pulsar has a really cool and easy to adjust IR-illuminator, much better than ATN’s. But appearance is not that crucial as it’s functionality. ATN’s illuminator allows us to see more at the biggest distance.

Digex + own IR-illuminator | Digex + ATN IR-illuminator |
---|---|
But before the complete darkness there was a small time period of low light conditions where X-Sight 4K without IR-illuminator saw completely nothing while Digex N455 allowed us to see our targets. Yes, the images are not so crisp but it was really impressive.
Now let’s see image quality at complete darkness with IR-illuminator. We were a bit disappointed because at complete darkness Pulsar’s image was almost the same as ATN’s but without much details and more pixelated. For us the X-Sight image at night was better than Digex but we decided that it will be more fair to call it a draw in comparison.

Conclusion
As a conclusion we can tell that it makes no sense to pay much more for almost the same image quality and functionality. ATN X-Sight 4k has a color image at day time, more detailed image at night time and costs two times less than Digex N455. Features as well as app – is not crucial during the hunt and you need to pay attention to image quality. Only one feature is very crucial – integrated ballistic calculator and ATN owns it.
